Pantry Pests
Pantry Pests: Tiny Invaders in Your Food Supply
To prevent these pests, keep food sealed in airtight containers, regularly clean pantry shelves, and check for signs of infestations. If you find pests, it's important to act quickly to avoid further contamination.
Some Pantry pests to be aware of:
Indian Meal Moths: These are among the most common pantry pests, recognizable by their wings that are coppery-brown with a grayish-white tip. They infest grains, cereals, and dried fruits.
Cockroaches: While not exclusively pantry pests, they often invade kitchens and can contaminate food. American and German cockroaches are common in Bakersfield.
Weevils: These small, beetle-like pests often target grains, nuts, and dried fruits. They’re typically found in flour, rice, and other stored food products.
Flour Beetles: Species like the Red and Confused Flour Beetles can infest flour, cereals, and other dry goods, causing significant damage to pantry items.
Pantry Moths: Similar to Indian meal moths, these pests also infest various pantry items, including grains and snacks.
